Songwriting is an invaluable craft that sits at the center of the music industry. In this eight-hour weekend clinic you'll connect with other writers, break down the craft behind songwriting and learn techniques and skills aimed at developing your abilities as a writer. Together with your songwriting tutor, you'll analyse popular songs while experimenting with a host of creative songwriting techniques. 

Course Timetable

10am - 10:30am: Induction to the SAE Liverpool campus 

10:30am -12pm: The foundations of song structure

12pm - 1pm: Songwriting practical workshop

1pm - 2pm: Lunch break

2pm - 3:30pm: The lyric toolbox and how to use it

3:30pm - 4:30pm: The architecture of music: using your materials.

4:30pm - 6pm: Songwriting and Music Production collaborative workshop

Get hands-on with Your Songs

At ICMP, we understand that the most important part of songwriting is practising the creative process with your own material. In this weekend clinic, you'll be encouraged to perform your songs in front of the class, receiving practical feedback from your tutor and peers and taking your craft to the next level.

SongwRiting Clinic Tutor: Nick Ellis

Nick Ellis is a singer, songwriter and guitarist with more than 30 years of experience in the music industry, spanning live performance, studio production, film, television, theatre and music publishing.

Aside from his live performance and recording work, Nick has always enjoyed teaching - both one to one and in a group dynamic. He values sharing his music theory with others and developing his music theory and developing his music philosophy of the craft.

When not gracing the stage or at the studio, Nick is a freelance music tutor, career mentor and industry consultant.

Songwriting Weekend Clinic

Ability Level: Beginner

No previous experience is required to enrol on this workshop, however a passion for songwriting is essential! We'll show you the skills you need to build a strong foundation in the craft of songwriting.
