Acoustic Guitar: Level 1

Level:
Beginner - No previous learning is required, however a passion for guitar is essential!

Overview:
This course provides an introduction to the acoustic guitar, its role in music and the basic technical skills needed to play songs. On this course your tutor will guide you through the fundamentals of theory, technique and concepts, making reference to contemporary music examples.

By completing this course, you will:

  • Be able to tune your guitar
  • Understanding open position chords (Major, Minor, Dominant 7 etc)
  • Learn the notes on your guitar and the ability to play simple melodies
  • Have a grasp of time keeping
  • Learn songs in a variety of styles from Simon and Garfunkel to Damien Rice.

Acoustic Guitar: Level 2

Level:
Next Step - Minimum 3 months playing experience together with the ability to play a selection of chords and a small repertoire is required. This course is an ideal progression from Acoustic Guitar Level 1.

Overview:
The next step for aspiring acoustic guitarists, this course introduces new concepts, patterns and theories to expand your vocabulary and repertoire on the guitar. You’ll learn to perform in a variety of styles such as blues, rock, funk and soul, building upon your performance techniques.

By completing this course, you will:

  • Understand barre chord development in two positions
  • Expand your chord vocabulary on the guitar (Minor 7th, Major 7th Sus4 etc)
  • Learn basic harmony and theory such as harmonising the major scale
  • Understand the open string pentatonic shapes
  • Learn finger style patterns and timekeeping
  • Expand your song repertoire
  • Develop the ability to accompany a singer
