Drums: Level 1

Level:
Beginner - No previous learning is required, however a passion for drums is essential!

Overview:
This course provides an introduction to the drum kit, its role in music and the basic technical skills needed to play songs. On this course your tutor will guide you through the fundamentals of theory, technique and concepts, making reference to contemporary music examples.

By completing this course, you will:

  • Be able to setup and adjust the drum kit
  • Develop the skills to play basic drum rudiments
  • Play a steady drum beat and keep good time
  • Be able to embellish a groove with improvised fills around the kit
  • Be able to perform competently as part of a band

Sessions are held on Wednesday evenings between 7 pm and 9 pm at our campus in Kilburn.

Drums: Level 2

Level:
Next Step - Minimum 3 months playing experience together with the ability to play a selection of grooves and a small repertoire is required. This course is an ideal progression from Drums Level 1.

Overview:
The next step for aspiring drummers, this course introduces new concepts, patterns and theories to expand your vocabulary and repertoire behind the drum kit. You’ll learn to perform in a variety of styles such as blues, rock, funk and soul, building upon your performance techniques.

By completing this course, you will:

  • Be able to improvise a range of groove patterns and fills
  • Build skills to perform a range of musical styles competently
  • Be able to keep time effectively
  • Understand drum charts and more complex notation
  • Develop more rudiments and technical concepts
  • Perform with confidence as part of a band.
