Lenny Watson is a community organiser in the South London music scene, and has been working for the last seven years to create radical change within grassroots venues and cultural spaces. She teaches on our BA (Hons) Live Event Management programme.
She founded Sister Midnight, a grassroots venue and record shop that helped support the growth of many of South London's iconic bands and musicians. The venue played host to the likes of Goat Girl, Porridge Radio, Great Dad (Speed Training), Caroline, among many others.
Since the venue’s unfortunate closure in lockdown, Lenny has gone on to re- establish Sister Midnight as a community owned business, launching a campaign to create Lewisham's first community owned music venue and find a new home for Sister Midnight's cultural activity. The campaign has been London's most successful community share offer ever, having raised over £270,000 so far and attracting support from the likes of Jules Holland, Edgar Wright, and London’s Night Czar, Amy Lame.
Outside of her work with Sister Midnight Lenny continues to champion South London's music through her record label, Fatigue Records, which has a number of upcoming releases from Lewisham's finest underground bands scheduled for 2022. She regularly promotes gigs in the South London area, platforming emerging local talent. She is also currently a trainee community shares practitioner with Cooperatives UK, helping other grassroots groups to establish community owned businesses and fundraise through share offers.
