We are thrilled to announce that our BA (Hons) Music Business and Entrepreneurship degree has achieved accreditation from the Chartered Management Institute (CMI).
This is a significant step for one of ICMP’s flagship courses and makes it the only undergraduate music business course in the UK with this accreditation.
We are proud that the programme constantly achieves some of the highest student satisfaction rates in the country, for a Music Business programme, and has developed an enviable reputation for its successful graduate outcomes. Over previous years, the course has seen graduates land impressive jobs at influential industry businesses such Mute Records, Festival Republic and Dirty Hit Records, as well as launching their own successful music ventures.
Achieving this accolade from the CMI has been a rigorous process and is yet further testament to the investment ICMP has made in the programme alongside how it aligns with the needs of today’s music industry. The programme is also the first music business degree in the UK to give equal weighting to the concept of ‘entrepreneurship’.
Alongside honing their creative and entrepreneurial abilities, students on the course also benefit from an impressive roster of visiting lecturers, as Programme Leader Ken Foreman said:
It’s critical that students learn from those at the forefront of today’s music industry. The deep connections we have forged with many of the sector’s most successful industry professionals allows us to tap into their knowledge and experiences. By hearing firsthand from those who have navigated their way to the top of the business, students have an invaluable opportunity to use this knowledge to enhance and inform their own careers.”
Over recent years, students have been visited by representatives from Parlophone, Universal, Kobalt Music, Sony, Music Venue Trust, PRS, and many others.
Ken continued:
This new CMI accreditation will be of great benefit to our students both while studying and upon entering the workplace. It’s an honour for the programme to be recognised in this manner and we’re looking forward to working alongside the CMI as we seek to continually improve the course, maintaining our position as the UK’s leading Music Business degree.”
The dual accreditation now available to students will see them graduate with an additional CMI leadership and management qualification, as well as their Bachelor’s degree. The qualification, which recognises key skills for middle managers, is considered a benchmark on the way to achieving Chartered Manager status.
Students also benefit from complimentary CMI membership as they work towards their degree, plus an additional two years membership post-graduation. Membership provides a range of networking and professional development opportunities, along with access to constantly updated resources.
