Malcolm ‘Bubba’ McCarthy is a highly accomplished keyboardist and drummer with performance and production credits which set him amongst the most sought-after UK session musicians and musical directors.
Having graduated with the Best Drums prize from our Masters in Music Performance course where he honed even greater proficiency on the drums, Malcolm has gone on to work with many critically-acclaimed acts in studio and live settings, as well as signing a publishing deal with chart-topping singer-songwriter John Newman (Kobalt), and creating music for primetime television series’ including The X Factor.
Malcolm's experience extends from playing at club venues such as Koko, and the Jazz Café to world tours, performing in South America and Asia. He is a regular on the festival circuit every year having performed at festivals such as Exit, and Montreux. Malcolm arranged and programmed tracks for all five members of Simon Cowell’s group (the Girls) in the 2018 series of the long-running talent scouting show, X Factor.
Compounding his success as a performing and recording artist, McCarthy also writes and produces. Based in his own studio, he focuses primarily on developing and championing UK based independent artists working towards their first releases. Malcolm has also worked with top songwriters such as Ed Drewett (One Direction), James Newman (Rudimental) and Biff Stannard (Spice Girls).
