We celebrate another year of amazing achievements from the ICMP community.

2024 has been a year full of incredible success for many of the creatives, musicians, artists and professionals at the heart of the ICMP community. 

As the year draws to a close, we look back on the last 12 months and highlight some of the big moments. 

ICMP expands into North of England with Leeds and Liverpool campuses

ICMP is delighted to be expanding into the North of England with campuses now opening their doors to students in Leeds and Liverpool.  

Both are co-located with the SAE Institute and aim to support the next generation of music talent with courses due to start in September 2025.

Alumna Gabi King plays with Perrie Edwards 

Alumna Gabi King has performed with many high profile acts including Declan McKenna, The 1975 and CMAT. 

If you were watching Perrie Edwards on the Graham Norton show, then you would have caught Gabi playing drums for the artist. 

ICMP's Linett Kamala named Cultural Ambassador for the UK Hip Hop Museum

Congratulations to ICMP's Linett Kamala on being named Cultural Ambassador for the UK Hip Hop Museum.

The museum was launched in 2023 and is a groundbreaking initiative led by pioneering rap artist Kurtis Blow and UK B-boy Troy Harewood.

ICMP alumna Bea Stewart supports Snow Patrol

ICMP BA Songwriting alumna Bea Stewart performed as support act to indie titans and Brit Award winners Snow Patrol. 

Bea opened the band's intimate gig at the Ulster Hall in Belfast in September as part of promotion for their new record, 'The Forest is the Path'.

ICMP's Sophie Daniels presents BBC 6 Music show with Elbow's Guy Garvey

ICMP's Sophie Daniels has presented a BBC 6 Music show with Elbow's Guy Garvey as part of the 6 Musicology series with Huw Stephens. 

Sophie and Guy are two of the UK's first songwriting professors - Sophie at ICMP and Guy at the Manchester Met University. 

Sophie has hosted the 6 Musicology section of Huw Stephens' show since the start of 2024 alongside Daniel Green, Head of Academic Development, and tutor Anjali Perinparaja.

ICMP alumna Vixen plays with Halsey

Ivors Academy Senate

Congratulations to the various members of ICMP's teaching faculty who have been elected to the Ivors Academy Senate and Councils. 

Dr Catherine Anne Davies, Songwriting and Music Production Tutor, and Xantone Blacq, Vocals and Songwriting Tutor, will sit on the Senate. 

Elsewhere, Jonathan Whiskerd, ICMP's Dean sits on the academy's Songwriting and Education Councils, which report to the Senate. He is also a member of the LGBTQIA+ Council alongside alumnus and tutor Joshua 'SATCH' Satchell

Matt Maltese writes score for Royal Shakespeare Company production

Congratulations to ICMP BA Creative Musicianship alumnus Matt Maltese on being announced as the composer for the Royal Shakespeare Company's (RSC) upcoming stage production of 'Twelfth Night'

The new production will play in Stratford-upon-Avon until 18th January 2025.

ICMP alumna Tyra Ornberg performs at Glastonbury with Mount Kimbie

ICMP alumna Tyra Ornberg performed with Warp Records' Mount Kimbie at the 2024 Glastonbury Music Festival. 

Our Bass Higher Diploma alumna played as part of Mount Kimbie's live band to promote the release of their latest record, 'The Sunset Violent'.

The Velvet Hands play at London's iconic Roundhouse 

Featuring ICMP alumni Toby Mitchell and Sam Hilder, the Velvet Hands are an exuberant young rock band who've enjoyed no little success. 

To date, they've supported Liam Gallagher and Paul Weller and performed at the Glastonbury Pilton Party.

This year saw them take to the stage at London's iconic Roundhouse venue.  

ICMP alumnus Rocco Palladino wins Ivor Novello with Yussef Dayes

ICMP Bass alumnus Rocco Palladino has won an Ivor Novello Award for his contribution to Yussef Dayes' album, 'Black Classical Music'

Alongside Yussef and Charlie Stacey, Rocco wrote and performed across the tracks on the record which was named Best Album at the prestigious event.

ICMP's Coming Up Roses return to Asia for live tour

London-based, Singapore-born indie rock outfit Coming Up Roses, featuring four ICMP students and alumni, announced a new tour of Asia.

The Back The Way We Came Tour saw the group make their way through Thailand, Taiwan and Japan before ending in their home country of Singapore.

ICMP partners with Music Production for Women

ICMP announced a new partnership with Music Production for Women (MPW), an initiative aiming to empower female and non-binary artists to learn how to produce in a safe and encouraging environment. 

The MPW collaboration has stemmed from ICMP's Music Production school looking to address the imbalance in gender equality within the world of music production.
