Nectar Woode, ICMP's BA in Creative Musicianship alumna, will be among the artists performing at the Great Escape Festival in Brighton.
The event takes place from 14-17th May across various Brighton venues and is seen by the wider industry as an essential platform for emerging new music talent.
Nectar's career has been in the ascendance of late, having released her second 'Head Above Water' EP in November 2024 via Communion Records while also performing a headline gig at London's Moth Club.
She also supported Leon Bridges in November at EartH in Hackney.
Speaking about her Ghanaian heritage alongside her love for indie guitars, Nectar said:
With West African music, you can hear that rawness so clearly with the rhythm and the songwriting, and then I do like my indie side - with Joni Mitchell that quality is so obvious too."
"I remember so vividly the moment I wanted to be a songwriter as my profession. I was 15 and there was a video on YouTube of Lauryn Hill's 'MTV Unplugged', and it's just her with an acoustic guitar, chatting. I just watched it and cried."
Nectar's accolades include presenting Soho Radio's Women In Jazz show to tell the story of unheard voices in a traditionally male-dominated music scene.
She has received praise from the likes of Zane Lowe, Elton John, Jack Saunders and Sian Eleri, and been BBC Radio 1's Next Wave artist twice, as well as featuring on BBC Radio 4's Loose Ends, Spotify RADAR and BBC Radio 2.
