Do something great

Here are some top tips on on how you can do your bit to support your local community during this challenging time...

At ICMP, we're committed to supporting our local community.

We're proud to be part of such a diverse area here in Kilburn where residents, businesses and organisations pride themselves on looking after and out for each other.

Our community engagement has seen us working in various capacities throughout our borough.

Our work has involved:

  • connecting with a local residents' association
  • offering discounted education
  • opening our doors to local schools
  • supporting local food banks and charities with fundraisers
  • supporting local musicians through partnership work with local venues
  • collaborating with Brent's 2020 London Borough of Culture

Get involved in your local community

During these times, we’re encouraging our staff and students to play an active role in their local communities wherever they can. The benefits of volunteering are twofold and well documented. Here are just three of those:

  • volunteering connects you to others
  • volunteering is good for your mind and body
  • volunteering brings fun and fulfillment to your life

This is a great time for you to connect and build relationships within your community. Here are a few ideas on how you can get involved:

Nextdoor Community Project

Discover your neighbourhood

Join your local 'Nextdoor' community (this is an online forum linked directly to your postcode), find out local news and connect with neighbours if you either need or can offer help.

Save our music venues

Support your local venue

One of the hardest-hit sectors is live entertainment and The Music Venue Trust is currently fundraising to save UK music venues. Are you thinking of doing a live stream soon? Why not fundraise for this cause as part of your online event?

Fundraising for charity

Charities have been hit hard with the current lockdown, especially those relying on fundraising from events such as the London Marathon or other sporting challenges. Why not come up with a creative way of raising money for charity during this time? Set yourself a daily or weekly challenge. JustGiving has some great examples.

Donate to Foodbanks

Donate to your local foodbank

"Most of our donations usually come from supermarket collection boxes which are really affected by the crisis, so individual and business donations directly to the foodbank are crucial right now in providing emergency food parcels to people who cannot afford food." - Claudia Wallace, Brent Foodbank

If you can, keep donating through your local supermarket, or you can donate directly to your nearest foodbank. Alternatively, you can offer an online donation.

Local Volunteering Opportunities

There are still plenty of ways you can help those in your local community during the coronavirus pandemic. Sites such as do-it.org list thousands of opportunities you can search through via interest and location.

Current ICMP students

We continue to encourage all ICMP students to check-in with each other. Please don't forget if you or others are in need of support during this period, then get in touch with us.

All students also have access to:

You’re not alone: Togetherall. This is a safe place to talk, share and support others like you. It is available 24/7, 365 days a year and is FREE for all ICMP students.

ICMP Hardship Fund

If you are currently worried about your finances, the ICMP Hardship Fund could help.

We have a fund available to provide financial assistance for students in extremely difficult financial circumstances. This is designed to support students who need financial help to meet essential costs of living and study. Full details can be found here.
