About Elena Tonra
Elena formed her band Daughter whilst studying songwriting at ICMP. Forming the band with fellow ICMP Alumnus Igor Haefeli, (who also studied Songwriting) and Remi Aguilella, (who studied a BMus in Popular Music Performance as a drummer). Some of the band's best loved songs, including ‘Youth’, were actually started at ICMP in the bands workshop sessions.
Elena has an exceptional and unique voice as a songwriter and the band’s work has gone on to receive great critical acclaim and commercial success, having in turn a strong influence on a whole new generation of alternative folk female songwriter’s. The trio’s writing and arrangements, along with Igor’s innovative production, created an inspiring and innovative new sound who’s influence can now be heard across modern, electronic folk. Eight years on from their graduation, it is a pleasure and an honour for us at ICMP to look back on their success and host this special event with Elena.
I can’t wait to hear Elena play some of those songs for us again in their stripped back raw form, and hear her brand new material, at the lovely and atmospheric venue Rosslyn Hill Chapel. It should be a very special evening for our whole songwriting community.
Sophie Daniels, Head of Songwriting
Completing the round...
This month's Songwriters' Circle will be hosted by ICMP's Head of Songwriting Sophie Daniels and will also feature three of our current BA (Hons) Songwriting students, Cristina Llull (Year 2), Akira Kikucha (Year 2)and Sergei Vartiainen (Year1). All of whom are working hard to develop their own unique voices.
The evening should be a lot of fun with some fantastic songs and a night to remember!
