​Ableton live 101: Production and Live Performance Essentials 

Level:
An understanding of the fundamentals of music technology and computer operating systems is desirable before taking this course. 

Overview:
This two‐day hands‐on course introduces students to the primary features and user interface of Ableton Live. Students will learn how to create their own song using Ableton Live’s comprehensive array of software instruments, loops and DSP effects. In‐depth lessons will cover MIDI and audio warping, recording, editing and arrangement techniques, key commands and automation. This class is aimed at beginners who want to learn the essentials of music production and live performance using Ableton Live and who prefer hands‐on and interactive instruction to best explore its functionality. 

By completing this course, you will:

  • Be able to use Ableton for live performance
  • Be able to record audio and create loops
  • Be able to create and edit MIDI
  • Have an understanding of mixing and automation
  • Be able to work with audio effects

Ableton Push 2: The essentials and beyond

Level:
An understanding of the fundamentals of music technology and Ableton Live is desirable before taking this course. 

Overview:
Push is an instrument that puts everything you need to make music in one place—at your fingertips. This one-day hands‐on course covers everything you need to know to get the best results from Ableton’s cutting edge controller Push 2. Students will learn how to create their own song using Push 2’s comprehensive feature set. We will also introduce the idea of using Ableton for Live Performance. After spending a day getting deep into what PUSH 2 is capable of we can guarantee that you will leave inspired with a new skill set that can help you take your productions to the next level. 

By completing this course, you will:

  • Know how to setup the console and preferences in Ableton Live
  • Understand how to programme melodies using the note matrix
  • Be able to change the sound of any device in your project
  • Be able to create a template for live performance
  • Understand about quantization and swing
  • Be able to use any loop and play it as a rhythmic or melodic element
