ICMP alumna Lauren Alex Hooper is releasing new music exploring her experiences as an autistic woman to raise mental health awareness.
The neurodivergent and disabled songwriter and alt-pop artist from Brighton has studied both our BA in Songwriting and MA in Songwriting.
Her new release, 'Write This Out' continues her musical journey of using her music to raise awareness around mental health and disability.
The track is about the experience of anxiety of having to hold onto all of our thoughts, experiences and opinions, in the fear of forgetting our identity and what makes us unique.
Commenting, Lauren said: "'Write This Out' is very much a representation of my experience with OCD as an autistic person."
It was inspired by this really severe anxiety that I've had for longer than I can remember, about forgetting things and how, if I forget the important things, I wouldn't be myself anymore. And if I don't have myself, then what do I have?"
Lauren's debut single, 'Invisible', was released to raise awareness about mental health with proceeds donated to the charity, YoungMinds.
Her debut EP, 'Honest', also revolved around the theme of mental health and the second single, 'Clarity', was chosen as BBC Sussex and BBC Surrey’s Introducing Track of the Day.
This latest release comes ahead of her brand new EP 'Unmasking'. Listen to the track below:
