We were delighted to welcome acclaimed multi-instrumentalist, songwriter and ICMP visiting faculty member Catherine Anne Davies (aka The Anchoress) for an exclusive masterclass.
The event took the form of an "in conversation" event with Sweet Billy Pilgrim songwriter and ICMP Songwriting tutor Tim Elsenburg.
Catherine is one of the most innovative artists working in contemporary pop, releasing her much-loved solo album ‘Confessions of a Romance Novelist’ in 2016 and since working as musical director for Simple Minds and collaborating with The Manic Street Preachers.
Commenting on how to succeed in the industry, Catherine said:
The big takeaway for the era we are living in is that you have to be good at lots of things. You have to understand every facet of the business. Some people are lucky enough to build a great team quite early, but if you are able to do those things yourself you have a much better chance at becoming successful."
The session also explored her current and previous musical projects as well as the challenges of working in a male-dominated industry.
Watch our video interview with Catherine from the event.
You’ll also be able to see her performing as part of Robert Smith’s Meltdown Festival supporting the Manic Street Preachers on 19th June.
