A team of ICMP students enjoyed access all areas opportunities as volunteers at the Americana Music Awards 2019.
The 2019 event, held at the Hackney Empire, is a celebration of all things Americana and saw the great and the good from the scene descend on East London for the event.
Among the winners were our previous Songwriters’ Circle guest Frank Turner who picked up the prize for Best Selling Americana Album for his latest record, ‘Be More Kind’.
The event was hosted by our past guest, BBC broadcasting legend, 'Whispering Bob' Harris. The opportunities for our students were facilitated by our Careers and Employability Hub.
Oli Tatler, ICMP’s Careers and Employability Manager, said:
We were delighted to work with the Americana Music Awards and offer our students experience at this year's event. It's typical of the industry connectivity our team in the Careers and Industry Hub helps facilitate."
"We believe these music industry events and opportunities are very important for our students to take advantage of alongside their studies. Not only does it benefit their time in the classroom, but this industry insight can give them the extra edge when looking for roles after completing their courses."
Catherine McNeil, ICMP's Masters in Songwriting student, said:
It was a wonderful opportunity to work on the Americana Music Awards at the Hackney Empire with a crack volunteer team from ICMP, and working with Bob, Trudy, Dillon and Miles Harris."
"As well as artist liaison with top names, I learnt about aspects of stage sound, networked, and even got an aftershow invite and guest listed for a Beth Nielsen Chapman and Grammy nominated Mary Gauthier gig at Cadogan Hall the next night. What's not to love!!"
