The ICMP was honoured last week to welcome two members of the Grammy winning and multi platinum selling band Jamiroquai for a special masterclass. Guitarist Rob Harris and bassist Paul Turner were able to head down to the ICMP and give students a rare insight into the work of session musicians and how to juggle both touring and recording, and what advice they would give to students preparing to start careers in the music industry.
Paul Turner, although recognized for his work with Jamiroquai and before that with Annie Lennox, he has worked with over 70 artists, including Tina Turner, Bryan Ferry, Tom Jones and Take That. His studio work and touring experience have made him an incredibly desirable bassist for musicians, and his versatility gives our students a great example of what they can do.
Rob Harris has built up an incredible track record as a professional pop and funk guitarist, as well as being a session player and touring guitarist to acts including Kylie Minogue, Take That, Gary Numan, Beverly Knight to but name a few. However, his experience with Jamiroquai since 2000 gives him the experience to really guide students in what they will need upon completion of students at the ICMP.
