Congratulations to ICMP BA Live Event and Festival Management student Luke Bourne for securing a job with the Toucan Talent Agency.

The live music booking agency represents a broad mix of musical talent, including Julian Cope, Murkage Dave, the Jesus and Mary Chain and The Go! Team.

Luke is working as an Agent Assistant, supporting an agent in organising live performance opportunities.

This involves coordinating schedules, liaising with venues and promoters, handling/creating contracts, collecting weekly ticket sales, arranging announcements, and much more.

Commenting Luke said: "The role demands strong administrative and organisational skills, particularly in managing and responding to a high volume of emails. One minute I may be collecting ticket sales data, and the next I could be coordinating with venues and promoters to confirm available dates for an artist performance."

Attention to detail is also crucial, especially when drafting and reviewing contracts to ensure all terms and conditions are accurately represented and adhered to. Effective communication and multitasking are essential, as are the abilities to quickly switch between tasks and maintain a high level of accuracy."

According to Luke, studying Live Event Management at ICMP has equipped him with many of the essential skills for this role.

He said: "The curriculum has covered all aspects of event planning and management with more to come, providing a solid foundation in the practical and theoretical elements of the industry."

"Learning from tutors who are experienced professionals in their fields has been invaluable; their real-world insights and advice have prepared me to confidently enter the world of live events. Through hands-on projects and coursework, I have developed the ability to manage logistics, coordinate with various stakeholders, and contribute to the success of live events."

Last summer, Luke worked with Festival Republic at Finsbury Park, Wireless and Reading Festivals as part of the events production team and it was these experiences that led him to want to pursue more opportunities in the live music industry.

Discussing the highlights of his experiences so far, Luke said: "Attending my first gig as an Agent's Assistant for an artist represented by the agency was amazing.

It was incredibly fulfilling to know that I had played a role in organising the show, including creating the contract, collecting weekly ticket sales, and liaising with the promoter and artist management."

"Another highlight was successfully confirming my first show with a promoter for an artist. This involved negotiating and confirming the artist's fee, as well as coordinating other crucial details such as flights and backline."

Well done to Luke and good luck with the rest of the summer!

ICMP's Hannah Ongers has returned to work with leading live agency CAA.
