ICMP Songwriting Alumna Elena Tonra has toured the world with her band Daughter but she found time in her busy schedule to play our final Songwriters’ Circle of the academic year.
The memorable event took place at the Rosslyn Hill Chapel in Hampstead and saw Elena joined by fellow alumna ARK as well as current students Cristina Llull, Akira Reid and Sergei Vartiainen.
Elena formed Daughter while studying songwriting at ICMP alongside fellow ICMP alumnus and songwriting student Igor Haefeli, and Remi Aguilella, (who studied a BMus in Popular Music Performance as a drummer).
Some of the band's best loved songs, including their biggest moment ‘Youth’, came to life at ICMP through the band's workshop sessions.
Commenting on her songwriting tips, Elena said:
It's hard to give advice as it’s such a personal thing but the one thing I’ve always tried to do is be incredibly honest in my writing. Try not censor things you want to say for fear of not coming across well. It can be very therapeutic."
Elena was one of a string of high profile guests to play at Songwriters' Circle in recent months including Frank Turner and Ben Earle from The Shires. Watch our highlights video from the event.
