Congratulations to a group of ICMP students who have had their music featured on Channel 4 TV show 'Ramadan in Lockdown'

The BMus in Popular Music Performance students spent three weeks working with their tutor Ben Jones and sync agency Delicious Digital on a choice of music sync briefs.

One group, featuring Anna Berg (vocals), Ajit Gill (percussion), Bruno Pinto (bass), Diego Degli Abbati (drums), Nacho Stax (guitar) and Artur Stypułkowski (guitar), had their music selected to feature on the Channel 4 show, ‘Ramadan in Lockdown’

The students recorded new music at Delicious Digital, then signed a single track deal with the agency for the use of their music.

Commenting, Anna said: “It’s very, very cool that they chose to use our track as part of this documentary series. It also gives you a boost to know a big network like Channel 4 has picked up on some of the music you’ve co-written.

ICMP was a great place to start out with sync, as I got to try a lot of new things I had never done (including writing and recording sync-music). You kind of had to launch yourself into things, which you always learn so much from."

Oliver Raphael, Delicious Digital director, said: "We’ve had a couple of placements of ICMP works for Channel 4 documentaries. We briefed the ICMP students to write tracks that we felt would fit a certain emotion so it’s always satisfying when that gets though to an editor.

The fact that ICMP sessions are rooted in live playing and recording, then high quality production means programme makers have the confidence they are working with the best sound. Even if you get a few seconds of music on something, it’s a credit, and it gives you something to talk about.

Ben Jones, BMus in Popular Music Performance programme leader, said: "I used my own relationship with Delicious Digital to give the students a chance to work with a real production house across a choice of real sync briefs.

"Not only did this offer our students the opportunity to work within a music industry setting and monetise their music, but this group were successful in getting a placement on a Channel 4 documentary. This is the epitome of industry and education working in harmony and the heart of what we do on the BMus programme. Well done guys!"

The Advanced Music Performance module on the BMus course offers students the chance to work in a variety of professional environments including musical theatre pit work, touring bands, corporate/function work and working in a studio.
