The ICMP Spotlight aims to support as many students and alumni as possible in their personal careers within the music industry.
Whether you'll be working on a musical, joining a cover band, starting out as a booking agent/artist manager/music journalist/etc, we want to know all about it and support you with any possible means.
Each month we present a student or graduate music project, making it our #ICMPSpotlight.
JK Productions • A Creative Support Service
by BA (Hons) Creative Musicianship alum Jules Konieczny
BA (Hons) Creative Musicianship alum Jules Konieczny is one half of the production/touring duo APRE, which together with his good friend Charlie Brown, has written, recorded, produced, and mixed nearly all of their releases for a few years now.
Having been signed to Polydor Records, Jules has also worked with a multitude of other artists, with varying degrees of involvement from supporting the songwriting process to recording and producing tracks. He has also collaborated with notable artists Claptone, Tom Grennan, Everything Everything, Kahlla, Bad Sounds & Millie Turner.
JK Productions is the culmination of Jules’ experience as an artist and collaborator that aims to provide a variety of personalised services, supporting budding artists through multiple steps of the song-making creative process.
This includes co-writing, top radio level mixing and production, as well as graphic design services for those looking for standout album/single cover artwork or eye-catching content for social!
What made you want to start JK Productions?
“I think this creative service is valuable because I have been where the ICMP students are now and totally understand that perhaps what they are making now, are stepping stones to finding out who they are as an artist, but these steps are integral to developing and discovering new and exciting talents and ways of working.”
You include graphic design support as a key point of your services, why should graphic design be an important skill in a musician’s toolbox?
"The design of your album/single cover and how you present a project on social media these days is more important than ever, but I think it is often overlooked. Most people will leave the artwork till the last minute, but I think it is integral to getting your music across in the right way. The art attached to the music is the only visual representation your audience has to go off, so it needs to encapsulate the mood and feelings you are trying to portray in the music. I work with people to really hone their art for the project, and really translate their tracks onto paper/screens.”
