Congratulations to all recipients of our BMus in Popular Music Performance Scholarships on starting their ICMP degrees.
The scholarships, led by some of the industry’s leading professionals as ambassadors, offer all winners the chance to study at ICMP for free over the duration of their undergraduate degree.
The ambassadors and winners were:
The Ace Scholarship (Guitar) | Darius Oon (Singapore)
The Yolanda Charles Scholarship (Bass) | Sejin Kim (South Korea)
The Cherisse Osei Scholarship (Drums) | Stephen Brown (London)
The Vula Malinga Scholarship (Vocal) | Veronica Ogidih (Birmingham)
Each of the recipients will have all three years of their studies funded by ICMP. To be able to enter for the scholarship the student had to complete an audition and be offered a place on the course.
This was to verify their academic ability to complete the degree if they won the backing.
The entry involved the applicant sending a video of their playing as well as an introductory video about themselves and why they thought the scholarship would suit them.
Commenting, Ace said:
Huge congratulations to all the recipients of the BMus scholarships. It’s been brilliant to welcome them all at the start of this academic year and we’re delighted that they’ve now launched their studies with us."
"As you can imagine it was incredibly difficult to choose the winner from more than 100 entries but we’re very happy with the students who made it through. Good luck to everyone with their studies!"
Veronica Ogidih said: "Being awarded the scholarship feels like a dream, I’m so thankful!"
I feel even more inspired to start my journey on the music performance course knowing that I have the right support. I’m looking forward to developing my skills as a vocalist."
Darius Oon said: "Being awarded the scholarship means the absolute world to me because it allows me to focus on being the best musician that I can be. I had been hoping to attend ICMP and to immerse myself in London’s music scene for a long time and I knew that it was the crucial next step both for me and for my band, Coming Up Roses."
Now with this scholarship, I am able to focus on my own personal development as a musician as well as networking with fellow students/musicians, gaining gig experience in the city’s amazing venues and continuing to write and record more music!"
Through the music performance, theory, and business modules. There’s so much potential here and I plan to use everything that I’m given and take it with me into my future endeavours.”
Each scholarship had its own judging panel. This consisted of the ambassador, an academic, industry expert, subject specialist tutor and a head of the BMus programme.
Names included, as well as the ambassadors, were:
Amber Davis from Warner Chapell, Lucinda Allen, Ben Jones, Freddie Draper, Melissa Rodrigues-Tull and Pete Whittard.
