Congratulations to ICMP alumni Hannah Montrose and Digby Lovatt on joining Ivor Novello Award winning artist Emeli Sandé for her Ronnie Scott's residency.
Emeli - whose 2012 debut album 'Our Version of Events' spent a total of 10 weeks at number one and became one of the best-selling albums of the decade - performed two intimate shows at the iconic Soho venue in January.
Taking place over consecutive nights, the band featured Hannah playing drums and Digby on bass with Emeli singing and playing piano. Keyboard player Nicky Brown also joined them on stage for the gigs.
The residency aimed to showcase songs from Emeli's latest fifth album, 'How Were We To Know', released in November 2023.
Commenting on the shows, Digby said: "I've been working with Emeli for almost a year - my first show with her was at Love Supreme 2023. I wasn't expecting to do the Ronnie Scott's shows as originally it was going to be a solo piano residency! But about a week before Emeli and her drummer (Hannah, also an ICMP alumni) invited me for a jam session to try and rework some arrangements. After the jam, Emeli asked if I could do the shows along with Hannah and Nicky Brown."
These shows were a bit of a 'pinch me' moment as my parents used to sneak me into Ronnie's to watch my favourite musicians when I was too young! Everything about the residency was incredible, Emeli is fantastic to work alongside, just as the rest of the band and crew."
"We all played our hearts out for every show, and I'm sure it's a run of gigs that none of us will ever forget!"
Emeli Sandé is one of the UK’s most popular artists with more than 25 million sales to her name alongside multiple BRITs, MOBOs and Ivor Novello awards.
Congratulations again to Digby and Hannah for landing the gig at Ronnie Scott's.
