ICMP's Yannis Iliopoulos, Senior Programmes Manager and Programme Leader of the MA Music Business, was a speaker at the Mastering the Music Business Conference, presenting a business workshop aimed at musicians.
His involvement in the conference stemmed from a successful workshop delivered at Athens Music Week in May 2024, as a mentor at HEMI Incubator - a business development programme supporting music entrepreneurs across Europe.
Commenting, Yannis said:
This invitation to speak aligned perfectly with my role at ICMP, allowing me to bridge my academic insights with real-world industry engagement and enhance the student experience through enriched curriculum content."
Yannis' workshop was titled 'Musicpreneurship: Business Workshop for Artists' and was specifically designed for musicians aiming to master the business side of their craft.
He said: "We delved into practical strategies for building a successful business model, focusing on providing clear, actionable steps rather than abstract theories. Recognising that new artists and music entrepreneurs often struggle with adopting complex decision-making frameworks, I emphasised the importance of creating a clearly defined roadmap to help them identify and deliver the value they can offer to their chosen target audience."
"This approach mirrors the core objectives of the 'Music Business Entrepreneurship and Finance' module I teach at ICMP, where we equip students with the core competencies, personal attributes and entrepreneurial skills they need to become a highly intuitive and competitive key player in their chosen field."
Continuing, he said: "The workshop was very well-received, and I was thrilled with the positive feedback from attendees. Participants appreciated the tangible guidance and immediate steps they could implement, which validated the importance of providing practical tools in addition to theoretical concepts. It was rewarding to see artists and entrepreneurs leave the session with newfound clarity and confidence in positioning their projects effectively."
This experience not only reinforced the teaching methodologies I employ but also provided fresh insights that I intend to bring back to my students, further enhancing their learning experience."
The MMB Conference was a vibrant gathering of industry professionals, artists, and innovators from across Europe.
Other sessions at the events included Empowering the Modern Music Ecosystem: From Local Talent to Global Trends, Digital Breakthroughs: Success Stories in the Music Business and From Score to Screen: The Art and Business of Music Sync.
Yannis added: "Networking with other experts provided valuable perspectives that will undoubtedly influence the curriculum development for our MA Music Business programme at ICMP, ensuring that our students are equipped with up-to-date knowledge and insights to thrive in the global music market."
