Electric Guitar: Level 1

Level:
Beginner. No previous learning is required, however a passion for guitar is essential!

Overview:
This course provides an introduction to the electric guitar, its role in music and the basic technical skills needed to play songs. On this course your tutor will guide you through the fundamentals of theory, technique and concepts, making reference to contemporary music examples.

By completing this course, you will:

  • Be able to play open position and barre chords
  • Learn the pentatonic and major scales
  • Understand the notes on the guitar neck
  • Develop ability to play basic strumming patterns
  • Develop a repertoire of songs
  • Perform competently as part of a band

Electric Guitar: Level 2

Level:
Next Step. Minimum 3 months playing experience together with the ability to play a selection of chords and a small repertoire is required. This course is an ideal progression from Electric Guitar Level 1.

Overview:
The next step for aspiring guitarists, this course introduces new concepts, patterns and theories to expand your vocabulary and repertoire on the guitar. You’ll learn to perform in a variety of styles such as blues, rock, funk and soul, building upon your performance techniques though solo, group and full band workshops.

By completing this course, you will:

  • Be able to play Scales, chords and arpeggios in two positions
  • Be able to play a 12 bar blues and improvise around it
  • Build a strong technique, timing and feel
  • Be able to read a chart
  • Learn how to harmonize the C Major scale
  • Develop a repertoire of songs
  • Perform competently as part of a band
