Congratulations to ICMP Bass alumnus Rocco Palladino on winning an Ivor Novello Award for his contribution to Yussef Dayes' album, 'Black Classical Music'

Alongside Yussef and Charlie Stacey, Rocco wrote and performed across the tracks on the record which was named Best Album.

The Ivor Novello Awards is one of the most prestigious accolades in the music industry. The latest event saw Bruce Springsteen, RAYE and Skepta among those winning awards.

According to the Ivors, "judges praised 'Black Classical Music' for its narrative arc that propels the listener forward, using a modern lens to reframe the format of instrumental music".

Commenting on the record via Instagram when it was released in September 2023, Rocco posted:

"My bro genius drummer/artist Yussef Dayes new album 'Black Classical Music' is out now!"

Loved being a part of this record, thank you always Yussef for having me on it and giving me the freedom to truly express myself."

"You killed it - so glad people can finally hear what ,you put together. Amazing to work on this with so many talented musicians, artists and engineers."

Tom Gray, Chair of The Ivors Academy, said: "On behalf of The Ivors Academy and all the songwriters and composers we represent, it's an honour to recognise extraordinary work and the brilliant individuals behind it."

We know that, because they are chosen by our peers, our awards are incredibly meaningful to their recipients. Ultimately, everyone knows that The Ivors define exceptional craft so a huge congratulations to all our winners."

Roco's music industry journey has seen his work previously nominated for an Ivor award for his work on 'What Kinda Music', an album recorded with Yussef and Tom Misch.

He has also performed with soul legend D'Angelo and Jai Paul, including the latter's famous Coachella festival gig.
