Congratulations to ICMP alumna and tutor Lucy James on receiving a commendation for her contributions to widening participation as a student at the 2024 NEON Awards.
The event took place at Westminster Palace with MP Adam Thompson where Lucy was given the recognition for her contributions.
Hannah Trott, ICMP's Head of Access and Participation, said: "From a nominations list of over 20 it is incredible that Lucy was shortlisted and recognised with a commendation for Student of the Year."
"To be commended and recognised at Westminster Palace is a massive achievement and no mean feat given the work by the other commended student from Queen's University Belfast and winner from University of Salford."
Lucy is a care experienced person who comprise one of the most under-represented groups within higher education, with just 14 percent attending university, and 62 percent of this demographic having the resources and support to complete their degrees.
Commenting, Lucy said: "It is a pleasure and a privilege to be recognised by NEON, who I admire greatly for their commitment to widening access and participation."
This commendation is a huge affirmation of my intentions as a student, which now guide my ethos as an educator; to make academic and creative endeavours more accessible."
"I'm extremely honoured that my colleagues at ICMP have not only championed my journey as a student, but continued to create space for me to explore my passion for community engagement through research and teaching."
The NEON Awards celebrate institutions and people who are working to widen access and participation.
