Congratulations to ICMP's Linett Kamala on being named Cultural Ambassador for the UK Hip Hop Museum.

The UK Hip Hop Museum was launched in 2023 and is a groundbreaking initiative led by pioneering rap artist Kurtis Blow and UK B-boy Troy Harewood.

According to the founders:

The museum aims "to be a dynamic and immersive cultural institution that serves as a hub to preserve the legacy of hip hop”."

Linett joins fellow musical pioneers Normski and Monie Love as ambassadors for the initiative which is looking to celebrate the ground-breaking musical scene.

Normski is a revered and respected DJ, broadcaster, and photographer while Monie is known for her hits and broadcasting.

Linett is known as the Notting Hill Carnival 'Sound System Queen', being credited as one of the first female DJs to perform on a sound system in the mid 1980s at the event and now serves as its Board Director.

Alongside her lecturing at ICMP, other initiatives include the Lin Kam Art Sound System Futures Programme, a programme aimed at developing the next generation and Original Sounds Collective; amplifying the presence of women in sound system and moving the culture forward.

Linett is also the Artistic Director of the South Kilburn CarniVale, a community led wellbeing, music and art festival in London, NW6.

Congratulations to Linett on this latest appointment!
