Congratulations to ICMP tutor Linett Kamala on being nominated as an Underground Hero in DJ Mag’s Best of British 2023 Awards.

Linett teaches on ICMP's BA (Hons) Live Event and Festival Management programme

Her musical adventures began during the eighties when she is credited as being one of the first female DJs to perform at the iconic Notting Hill Carnival, aged just 15.

Since then, her career has expanded to include education and community music projects alongside DJing and serving as a Board Director for the event.

Commenting on the nomination, Linett, via Instagram @linett_kamala, said:

I’m a bit lost for words, it’s an absolute honour - this nomination means so much especially for all the communities I work with including the millions involved in Notting Hill Carnival as well as championing, providing opportunities, space and visibility for groups underrepresented in the culture."

"These include those working with the next-generation through the Lin Kam Art Sound System Futures Programme, women via the Original Sounds Collective and LGBTQIA+ in sound system culture."
