ICMP is delighted to announce we have received a Silver rating in the Teaching Excellence Framework (TEF).
The rating recognises our ‘Student experience’ and ‘Student outcomes’ related to our undergraduate and postgraduate degrees. ICMP was rated Silver in both categories marking a huge achievement for our team.
What is TEF
The TEF is a national scheme run by the Office for Students (OfS) to promote excellent teaching in universities and colleges. It is intended to help students choose where to study, by providing clear information about the quality of teaching provision and student outcomes.
The TEF does this by assessing and rating universities and colleges for excellence above a set of minimum requirements for quality and standards.
Providers that take part in the TEF receive an overall rating as well as two underpinning ratings – one for the student experience and one for student outcomes.
The ratings reflect the extent to which a provider delivers an excellent experience and outcomes for its mix of undergraduate students and across the range of its undergraduate courses and subjects.
ICMP’s Silver Rating
The silver rating means that ICMP’s student experience and outcomes are typically very high quality, and there may be some outstanding features.
Paul Kirkham, ICMP Chief Executive said:
This TEF rating is undoubtedly a huge achievement and recognition for ICMP, our tutors and our staff."
"We’re a diverse and inclusive institution and therefore very pleased to see how many of the best features of our provision that set us ahead of other smaller specialist providers - for example the supportive environment for students and staff, our industry connections and our collaborative learning culture - have been recognised by TEF. I am so proud of everyone at ICMP for having achieved this wonderful accolade.”
Professor Tony Harris, ICMP’s Principal, said:
Having the quality of ICMP’s work recognised in this way is extremely gratifying and shows how the efforts of everyone at ICMP have all been worthwhile."
"We have made extra efforts in recent years to make sure our teaching meets the needs of all of our students, 75% of whom are from groups who are under-represented in higher education nationally. The TEF confirms that ICMP students are leaving with good degrees and forging successful careers regardless of their background or prior experience. Congratulations to all tutors and staff involved in working so hard to attain this.”
Paul added: “Following the award of Degree Award Powers and our expansion to a second campus at Queen’s Park, this TEF rating opens up an exciting new chapter for us.”
John Densham, BMus in Popular Music Performance alumnus and former Student President at ICMP, spearheaded the Student Submission through a detailed video capturing numerous student experiences at the institution. Commenting on ICMP's recent achievement of a Silver rating, John remarked:
The TEF student submission was intended to communicate the great sense of community and diversity in the ICMP student body, as well as the quality of ICMP facilities and teaching."
"Thanks to all the students, staff and tutors involved in its creation, our TEF submission has had a great response and clearly demonstrates the quality experience students can expect while studying at ICMP. I’m very proud of the work we were able to put together and very grateful for the help in bringing the video together.
The TEF used our provider submission, student submission and various indicators and data. The outcomes will last for four years from September 2023.
