ICMP alumna Imisi Peletu joins Black Lives in Music mentorship

Congratulations to ICMP BA Creative Musicianship alumna Imisi Peletu who has joined the Black Lives in Music (BLIM) Connect mentorship initiative. 

The organisation works to support Black, Asian and ethnically diverse music industry professionals at all levels with opportunities through a four-month programme. 

The aim is to offer advice and opportunities to help professionals advance their careers. 

Commenting, Imisi said: "I applied for this scheme independently but with much encouragement and advice, perspective and insurmountable support from James Brister at ICMP's Careers and Industry Hub."

I felt empowered, supported and encouraged to expand my network, be involved in an initiative that looks to uplift, support, connect and highlight Black music industry professionals at all career stages with other established, seasoned and wise professionals in the industry, with the wisdom, tools, advice and knowledge given through mentorship."

Imisi graduated from ICMP in 2023 and has previously been supported by the New Comma's Creative Grant Scheme. 

She also appeared on British singing reality competition'The Voice' and was mentored by Olly Murs. 

Commenting on her time at ICMP, Imisi said: "The course encouraged self-exploration and creativity through its wide range of modules and avenues it showcased to me."

"It afforded me the opportunity to explore different facets as a musician, songwriter, composer and performer, and highlighted the importance of constant development and provided education and knowledge on the music industry."

"Most importantly, it taught me the power of collaboration and supporting one another. The incredible experience of being immersed in what undoubtedly was a community of like-minded, open minded, liberating people, all empowered to follow their aspirations in music, and all creative fields within it."
