Frank Turner meets ICMP scholarship winner at Songwriters' Circle

Our second year BA songwriting student Nicole Ingrassia met Frank Turner for the first time at our Songwriters' Circle event after being chosen by him as the winner of a scholarship for the first year of her studies.

The sold out event took place at Proud Camden on 12th February with current students Truly Ford, Diana Mukwaya and Rebekah Bossard all performing as part of the circle with Frank.

Nicole won the scholarship to start her studies with ICMP in September 2016 but had never met Frank until the packed gig.

Commenting, she said:

Being given the opportunity to get the scholarship was absolutely amazing. The equipment I received helped me to write and record my songs and the words that Frank said in regards to awarding the scholarship to me have helped me through all those times when I felt like I wasn’t good enough for this.

Given the chance to, I simply had to give him a hug and thank him for believing in me at a time when I didn’t really believe in myself. He is a brilliant, gifted, amazing human being and artist."

Songwriters' Circle is a monthly event ICMP hosts offering our students and alumni the opportunity to gain experience performing alongside high-profile artists such as Frank. Previous guests have included Ed Harcourt, our alumna Elena Tonra from Daughter  and The Dunwells. Since the latter's appearance with our students and alumni, The Dunwells have gone on to offer our songwriting student Richard Fairlie a support slot at their next London gig at London Fields Brewery on 28th February. This is just one example of the exclusive opportunities that open up to students studying at ICMP.

We'd like to thank Frank Turner for performing and watch our video of the night below. Our next Songwriters' Circle takes place with the brilliant Ben Earle from the Shires on 19th March.
